It could be a rookie looking to break into the NHL. Or, in the case of former Edmonton Oilers forward Warren Foegele, an opportunity to put his best foot forward with a new coaching staff.

Foegele signed with the Los Angeles Kings on July 1st to a three-year $3.5-million contract. He more than earned that after a career season where he recorded 41 points in 82 games.

Last night was Foegele's first pre-season game for the Kings. He did not disappoint.

The 28-year-old forward recorded two points in the Kings 3-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. Foegele scored one goal and added an assist. His goal counted as the game winner for the Kings.

In 14:13 of ice time, he fired four shots on net and threw a single hit. Foegele skated on a line with Kevin Fiala and Quinton Byfield. Last night was his first game of the pre-season.

Foegele played on both special teams and got his feet wet with new systems. While he did see some time on the Oilers second unit power play, he was primarily utilized on the penalty kill. He will continue that role with the Kings, as he has already seen some time killing penalties with Byfield.

Oilers fans should circle December 28, 2024 on their calendars. That will be the team's first game against the Kings since Foegele signed with them. It's sure to be a spirited affair, as they typically are.
