A forward who used to play for the Edmonton Oilers will now have his contract terminated by his new team.

There has been a lot of action this off-season with former Edmonton Oilers players. Klim Kostin re-signed with the Detroit Red Wings after being traded there. Kailer Yamamoto was bought out by the Red Wings and then signed a new deal with the Seattle Kraken. Taylor Hall also found himself traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he will be able to mentor Connor Bedard - to ease the youngster's transition into the NHL.

Despite these successful transitions to new teams, there is one former Oiler who is not as lucky. Josh Archibald of the Tampa Bay Lightning has been put on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. This is curious because the depth forward has just signed a deal with the Lightning on the opening of Free Agency this past July.

The Lightning have issued a press release on the matter. The release states that Archibald & his agent informed Lightning General Manager Julien BriseBois that he would not report to training camp. Additionally, he wasn't planning on playing hockey for the "time being".

It's never an easy decision for a player to step away from the NHL for any length of time. Let's hope this is the beginning of a refreshing period of time for the Archibald's.
