Evan Bouchard celebrates a goal. One team that doesn't play until Tuesday is the Pittsburgh Penguins. On Sunday morning they announced a couple of moves. One involves the recall of a defenseman. The other transaction should be of interest to Oilers fans.
Former Oilers winger Jesse Puljujarvi has joined the Penguins as a free agent tryout. This certainly signals that the player is ready to make an impression on an NHL team to get into some games for the 2023-24 season.
This past off-season Puljujarvi underwent double hip surgery. The surgery involved the replacement of his hip joints with a metal ball and cap. It was an absolutely necessary procedure, as the player was under a significant amount of pain while playing.
Jesse Puljujarvi. This is the second free agent tryout that we have seen this season with Jaroslav Halak and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Puljujarvi struggled offensively last season with only 16 points in 75 games between the Oilers and Hurricanes. We will see if this leads to a standard player contract with the Penguins or another organization.
