EDMONTON – Well, that’s a choice.

There are plenty of former Edmonton Oilers players, coaches, and GMs to go around. Some turn to broadcasting gigs or scouting.

Some decide to become the GM of a rival organization in the same division.

To that last point, reports surfaced on Monday morning that former Oilers GM Ken Holland had chosen his next destination. After stepping away from managing a hockey organization for a year, he’s coming back.

The Los Angeles Kings announced on Wednesday that Holland has been named Vice President and GM.

Ken Holland Left To Pick Up The Pieces

The Kings are in shambles since being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season against the Oilers. On May 5th, the Kings and GM Rob Blake agreed to part ways.

Now, the former Oilers GM will be tasked with tweaking a consistent playoff team and finding the right chemistry of players to break through their postseason plateau.

It's bizarre that Holland chose to join the rival organization of the last organization he worked for, but perhaps that challenge is igniting his desire to return.

Ken Holland Had More Choices Than Just The Kings

The Kings aren’t the only team seeking a new GM. The New York Islanders are also pursuing one. With how experienced Holland is as a GM, any team looking to hire one (or replace their current one) would certainly call on him to gauge his interest.

It is not unreasonable to suggest that if a team has Holland high on its list, it could reconsider keeping its current GM.

All things considered, this is a safe bet for the Kings in their pursuit of finding a way to beat those pesky Oilers in the postseason. After all, who could be better suited for the task than the man who built the team?
