Offensively, Adam Henrique allowed the Oilers to come away with the victory. His two goals were all the team needed to beat their divisional rivals and gain a stranglehold of the series.

Defensively, Oilers’ blueliner Evan Bouchard put up one of the best defensive performances of his entire career. To the pleasant surprise of many, Kris Knoblauch did not have to resort to shuffling his pairings in order to get the desired results.

Now, the morning after, Knoblauch spoke to the media before travelling back to Vegas. In his presser, he gave an update on Mattias Ekholm and Calvin Pickard.

Knoblauch described Pickard as “day-to-day.” At first glance, this may seem to contradict a report from Darren Dreger yesterday that said the Oilers goaltender would return in “about a week.”

Simply put, a player can be away in “day-to-day” status long enough that it becomes a week. Regardless of specifics, it’s Stuart Skinner’s net for now.

    Mattias Ekholm

Ekholm has started taking some light skates on his own. This is the first of several steps for the steady defender to work his way back into the lineup.

Knoblauch told the press he may be available to the Oilers in the next series. If this is true, it would be a massive boost for the team.

The playoffs are a long and weary grind. Having players return can give the team new life, and make things a little bit easier for everyone else.
