Former Edmonton Oilers defender Jason Demers is returning to hockey, just not the NHL.
EDMONTON -- The National Hockey League is the hardest league to play in.

Everyone who plays in the NHL has gotten there through countless hours - along with a heavy dose of blood, sweat and tears.
Most hockey players who stop playing in the NHL end up playing elsewhere. After some time off, that is exactly what former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Jason Demers is doing.
Demers shared a tweet yesterday of his new hockey venture that you probably haven't heard of before. Demers will be returning to playing hockey, but in an exciting format - that has many different rules than the NHL.
For starters, the entire game is played similar to the NHL's overtime rules during the regular season. Each game consists of two eight-minute halves of three-on-three hockey.
There is no penalty box - anytime there is any infraction on a team, it results in a penalty shot. And the coach that is gifted the penalty shot can choose anyone on their roster to take the penalty shot.
One very cool attribute of 3Ice, is the "celebrity" coaches. Ray Bourque, Pierre Turgeon, Guy Carbonneau, Larry Murphy, Ken Daneyko, Joey Mullen, John LeClair and Oilers alumni Grant Fuhr.
Demers is set to play as a defenseman for Team Buffalo - with Turgeon as the coach. You can catch 3Ice games in person, televised on CBS or TSN as well as on the 3Ice Youtube Channel.
3Ice hockey begins in June, and be sure to check out 3ice.com for all the scheduling, tickets, roster information and more to learn about this fun and exciting way to play hockey.
