EDMONTON – When will it ever end?

Every other day, there are new articles floating around the internet that speculate on the future of Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid.

4 Reasons There Needs To Be A Connor McDavid Biopic EDMONTON – Movies are forever.

Yes, speculation is fun for every writer, regardless of the sport that they cover. However, one of the most ridiculous takes I have witnessed is the McDavid-to-Maple Leafs debacle.

I wrote about this topic last month, and my opinion on it hasn’t changed. The only thing that’s changed is how quickly my eyes roll into the back of my head when I catch sight of these headlines.

Sadly, there is only one way that these pipe dreams can be squashed like the cockroaches they are. If the Oilers announce an eight-year contract extension for McDavid in early July, my eyes can finally be freed from this involuntary workout.

To be fair, there is no sound logic in any of these arguments I’ve seen. Anyone who has heard how McDavid speaks about the city, the organization, and his teammates knows how committed he is to staying.

His best friend in the entire world is Leon Draisaitl. There is only one place where McDavid can play with Draisaitl, and that’s Edmonton.

Will this ever truly end, even if McDavid signs an extension? Likely not, but it’s a nice thought.
