Connor McDavid has now achieved something not seen since for 31 years.
EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid is thriving in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Edmonton Oilers captain has made a massive statement during the 2024 playoffs. He recently broke the record for assists in a playoff year. He's added to that in Game five.
When he scored his seventh goal of the postseason, it was also the 40th point he collected.
The last time a player collected 40 points in a playoff year was when Wayne Gretzky did it in 1993. Besides McDavid and Gretzky, the only other player to achieve this feat was Mario Lemieux.
McDavid is loudly stating his case for the Conn Smythe Trophy. At this point in time it seems like a no brainer that he would go home with it - even if the Oilers don't win the Stanley Cup.
It has been a huge year for the Oilers captain. He became the third player to ever record 100 assists in the regular season. He has carried that over to the playoffs.

There is no telling what else McDavid will achieve before the final buzzer of this series sounds.
