Connor McDavid is arguably the best player in the National Hockey League today. The Edmonton Oilers' captain processes the game at a pace that no one else can match. His puck skills at high speeds give him an edge that no one else can hold a candle to.

McDavid is one step closer to his ultimate goal of a Stanley Cup. In the process of getting there, he is joining some legendary company.

Only three NHL players in the history of the game boast a 1.5 points per game average in the regular season and the playoffs. Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and now McDavid.

In 712 regular season and playoff games combined, McDavid has 1088 points. That gives him a 1.52 points per game average. Gretzky's 3239 points in 1695 games gives him a 1.91 points per game average. Lemieux's totals are equally impressive, with 1895 points in 1022 games (1.85 points per game).

When the stakes of the game increases, McDavid elevates his game to match.

One prime example of that was when McDavid opened the scoring on Sunday night. A goal that sent the Dallas Stars to practice their golf game.

It's one thing to dominate the regular season, but to dominate the playoffs too is an incredible achievement. McDavid is clearly up to the task of pushing his team to greatness.
