EDMONTON -- A roller coaster ride is certainly one way to describe the season that the Edmonton Oilers are having.

They stumbled out of the gate (despite arriving earlier than any other team for Captain Skates) the Oilers went on a historic 16-game win streak - which included not losing a single game in the month of January.
As up-and-down as this season has been, one thing is crystalizing for the Oilers - they are playing consistently good hockey.
It's been such good hockey in fact, that the Oilers have achieved something this season that they couldn't last year.
With a 43-23-4 record the Oilers now have 90 points in 70 games this season. What's so special about that? They haven't hit 90 points at this point in the season since the 1980's.

The 2023-24 season marks the sixth-fewest games games it has taken the Oilers to hit the 90 point mark. The other five times all happened in the '80s.
All of this happening, while Connor McDavid marches closer to the single season milestone of 100 assists. Right now he has the second most assists in a single season over the last 30 years. He's only three assists behind Joe Thornton, who gathered 96 assists in the 2005-06 season.
