The 2023-24 season has officially turned over to the playoffs for the Edmonton Oilers. Tonight they play game one against their first round opponent - the Los Angeles Kings.
For the third consecutive season these two teams will meet each other in the opening quarterfinal playoff round.
Now that it's playoff time the salary cap doesn't apply and each team can make a many call ups as necessary. Which brings us to this morning's news.
Ryan Fanti of the ECHL Fort Wayne Comets has been recalled as an emergency back up. It's the Oilers already had a third goalie up with the team, this wouldn't have been necessary.
Until today they only had Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard on the roster for goalies. Now Fanti is available, should the Oilers be in a situation where his services are needed.
Fanti has a 9-6-2 record with the Comets this year. He's sporting a 2.75 goals against average (GAA) to go along with a .915 save percentage (SV%).
Game one tonight gets kicked off at 8:00 PM at Rogers Place.
