Connor McDavid is a generation player but the Edmonton Oilers captain is not on Wayne Gretzky's level.
EDMONTON -- What a fortunate position for a hockey organization.

The Edmonton Oilers currently have two of the best players in the game of hockey right now - Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Both players are in the prime of their careers and both players have been outspoken about how much they enjoy playing in this city for these fans.
They also love to break records. Draisaitl currently has the most power play goals of any Oilers player ever. McDavid is 18 points away from hitting 1000 points. Only three other Oilers have ever hit that mark with the team before - Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, and Wayne Gretzky.
When you stop and look at the career that Gretzky it kind of makes you wonder if he's human or not. His accomplishments are that unbelievable.
For starters, he's the only NHL player to reach 2000 points. He reached his first 1000 points in 424 games - and then his next 1000 points in 433 games after that.
And then there are the assists. McDavid added his name to the record books this year by recording 100 assists in a single season for the first time in his career. At the time of the accomplishment he was only the fourth player to do so. Since that game Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning added his name to the list.

After he hit that milestone, one of the Edmonton-based media members revealed to him that Gretzky reached the 100 assist in a season mark 11 times. McDavid laughed and then said what all of us are thinking, "that's insane. Just a casual 100 assist year every year."
"That's why he's the greatest of all time."
