    EDMONTON -- When you are hot, you're hot.

    The Edmonton Oilers know a thing or two about that. Last season, the team hailing from Alberta's capital city won 16 consecutive games, setting a team record and tying the NHL record.

    While they haven't experienced the same success this season, the Oilers are sitting pretty atop the Pacific Division Standings. With 67 points, they are tied with the Vegas Golden Knights, but they have one game in hand.

    One player who has pulled themselves up by their bootstraps is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

    After stuttering out of the gate to begin the year, he's been dynamite over this recent stretch of games. Since the calendar changed over to 2025, Nugent-Hopkins has recorded 12 points in 13 games. 

    In the previous 36 contests, he collected 20 points.

    Since January 1st, Nugent-Hopkins has 12 points in 13 games. Only one other Oilers player has scored more points, Leon Draisaitl. The "German Gretzky" has 19 points in 13 games. That also makes Draisaitl the third most productive player across the whole NHL.

    If the Oilers want to make noise in the playoffs, they need consistent secondary scoring. Since January 1st, Nugent-Hopkins has done that and a whole lot more.

    The Oilers will need more than Nugent-Hopkins to catch fire. However, they have found a way to win games as a team, and that's the most important detail to iron out.

    When Nugent-Hopkins is hot, he's hot.
