Whenever there is a new regime, turnover is common. It primarily happens with coaches and management staff for hockey teams. For Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers, it has also meant trading for several players that weren't on anyone's radar.

So far, Bowman has acquired Ty Emberson, Vasily Podkolzin, Paul Fischer, and Jacob Perreault, who can now be added to the list.

Perreault was acquired from the Montreal Canadiens for defender Noel Hoefenmayer. Hoefenmayer is a left-handed defenseman who spent last year and this year with the Bakersfield Condors.

Perreault's Strengths

The 22-year-old winger has great offensive tools. He has good hands, a good motor, and a wicked slapshot. Perreault is an offense-first player with the makings to be a good defensive player, too.

He has shown flashes of elite stickhandling and skating edges. Perreault is dangerous on the powerplay, where he can unleash his slapshot from Alex Ovechkin's office.

Funnily enough, Perreault pulled off the Michigan goal against the Condors.

A safe projection for him would be a middle-six NHL winger. If he can put everything together, it wouldn't surprise me to see him cement himself as a top-line complimentary player.

Overall, there is much to be excited about for the Oilers and their fans. But if he has so much skill, why hasn't he made it to the NHL yet?

Things Aren't Going Well This Season

After being traded to the Canadiens from the Anaheim Ducks at last year's trade deadline, he was assigned to the Laval Rocket. After 13 games, he was forced out after suffering a shoulder injury.

Because of this, he spent most of his summer rehabbing his shoulder. The AHL team sent him to their ECHL affiliates for a conditioning stint to get him back in shape.

Perreault played five games for the Trois-Rivieres Lions, recording one goal and four assists for five points. Because of his good play, he was called back up to the Rocket. He couldn't muster any points in six games back in the AHL.

He was returning to the ECHL today before the deal was struck.

A Clean Slate For Perreault

Now, he arrives in Bakersfield with a clean slate. The young winger could find himself in a prominent position with the Condors. The AHL squad is struggling to find the offense to win games.

They have a 7-8-3 record 18 games into the season. The Condors have scored 44 goals this year, with the Utica Comets, Chicago Wolves, and Manitoba Moose being the only teams to have scored fewer goals in the AHL.

With a new organization and an opportunity to play big minutes in every situation, Perreault will be a prospect that Oilers fans will want to keep their eyes on.
