EDMONTON – Trades are one of the best things about being a hockey fan.

Speculation and rumors surrounding trades is one of the time-honored traditions for fans of the Edmonton Oilers. This summer is no different.

There are fans who want Darnell Nurse's head on a silver platter and served to the first person who offers the Oilers anything of value. Even if Nurse isn't the one who goes, the Oilers could potentially make a couple moves on the blueline.

While it's fair to suggest that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl aren't getting traded anytime soon, other forwards might not be so lucky. Viktor Arvidsson could find himself on the outside looking in, as well as Adam Henrique.

However, one player who fizzled out as quickly as he bursted onto the playoff scene, was Evander Kane.

There is speculation that the Oilers tried to trade his contract during the regular season. Those rumors are rearing their ugly head once again, as the Oilers look to tweak their roster to be on the other side of the Stanley Cup celebrations one year from now.

To get a deal like that done, Stan Bowman can look to his Western Conference opponent, the Dallas Stars. The Stars just sent $4.5 million forward Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken for a third and fourth round draft picks.

This makes a Kane trade more pheasible. The Oilers just need to find a team (that is on Kane's 16-team list) and snag a couple of picks back.

It's perfectly reasonable to suggest that Kane could have a great season next year. But as far as the Oilers are concerned, they probably want to move on from a player who's ability to take a penalty outshined his scoring prowess in the Cup Final.

There is plenty of time between now and October for the Oilers to explore a trade. Let's see what happens.
