At long last, the NHL is well and truly back.
No more scouring team Twitter accounts for streams of rookie games, no more scouting pre-season statlines, and no more hoping that your team will dress a few players you recognize tonight. As of today (unless you're a Sabres or Devils fan), the games count.
The Oilers get their start on Wednesday night at home against Winnipeg, when they'll raise their Western Conference Champions banner. This is how the month of October shakes out for Edmonton (all times MT):
The Oilers have a pretty balanced schedule in the season's first month, facing likely cellar dwellers in Chicago, Calgary, and Columbus while also getting an early test facing Cup contenders Dallas and Carolina back to back.
There are plenty of intriguing matchups this October, including the year's first Battle of Alberta on Thanksgiving Sunday, a meeting with last year's Calder Trophy winner in Chicago's Connor Bedard, our first look at Philadelphia's Russian phenom Matvei Michkov, an always fun McDavid vs. Crosby game, and two early tilts against a revamped Nashville lineup featuring Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault.
