Edmonton breaks tradition with its new Hometown Remix Hockey jersey design.
The Edmonton Oilers have unveiled their new Hometown Remix jersey, confirming months of reports.
It is the first black jersey in franchise history, with orange and grey highlights and a recolored version of the classic logo that drops the blue. Two orange stripes, accented with grey, run across the arms and waist.
One shoulder carries the “Oil Country” badge from last year’s alternate jersey, while the other brings back the popular oil rig worker logo from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. Ice District Authentics writes, "The sleek, tonal crest paired with traditional striping allows the warning orange to take center stage. The shoulder patches hero both people and place. On the left shoulder is “Oil Country.” On the right, the oil rig worker proudly returns. And take notice of the hem: it features “This is Oil Country” surrounded by warning bars. Opponents, consider yourself warned."
The set also includes matte black helmets, black pants with the recolored crest, and striped socks. The team hasn’t announced when the jersey will debut, but given its dark color, it will likely be worn at home. The next home game is Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks.
The announcement came with the tagline: "Local meaning. Exceptional craft." The announcement also noted, "Orange and storm grey set off the black jersey, with the return of the oil rig worker. This is Oil Country."
Early Reactions From Fans
As with any new jersey reveal, there will be a variety of reactions. "Just curious what the thought process was on this one.. or if there even was one?," wrote one fan. Another noted that this is uninspring and a terrible response by the organization at a time they could be listening to fans, many of whom are staying at home instead of supporting the team.
Others liked the look.
