Edmonton Oilers prospect could be useful when it comes to getting the team out of a cap crunch.

Philip Broberg should be playing top four minutes in the AHL or NHL.

It's one of the NHL's worst kept secrets that the Edmonton Oilers (and several other teams) are under some serious pressure from the salary cap.

Jack Campbell.Jack Campbell.

This is largely Ken Holland's own making. In part, he achieved this by signing Jack Campbell to a five-year $5-million cap hit contract signed during last summer.

Campbell has played 10 games in the AHL and the results aren't good. He has a 4-6-0 record with a 3.46 goals against average (GAA) to go with a .888 save percentage (SV%). His lone saving grace is the one shutout he has.

These numbers don't scream "call me up, I'm ready for the NHL again". Something has happened and Campbell has lost his way.

Luckily, there may be a way to get Campbell's contract off the books before the end of the year.

Darren Dreger reports that Philip Broberg is a "commodity" and the demand for the defender is "growing higher every day."

With everything that has transpired regarding Broberg, it's probably for the best if he is moved. He's not getting the opportunity with the Oilers that he needs to develop into a top four defenseman.

One of the other 31 teams will be lucky to acquire him - they just need to take on the behemoth contract of Campbell.
