Yes, he was recovering and rehabbing from surgeries. That doesn’t change the fact that the team did well without him.
Perry, on the other hand, became a valuable contributor in goal production and in the locker room. The 40-year-old veteran forward potted 19 goals in a bottom-six role, playing just under 12 minutes a night.
That’s the kind of depth that a team values every day of the week.
Perhaps the allure of more money is what drove him away. For whatever reason, the Oilers will be counting on younger players to fill the massive shoes that his absence leaves.
