EDMONTON – Life comes at you fast.

Hockey fans know this better than most.

Edmonton Oilers fans know this especially. This season the Oilers have been hot one week and ice cold the next. With the playoffs in clear view, they need to win as many games as possible to secure Home Ice advantage.

As of this writing, the Oilers sit nine points outside of first place in the Pacific Division.

The Oilers kicked off their past week with a win over the Dallas Stars. This game was significant because it marked the first time this season that Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid were injured.

Shortly after, the regular season ended for all Canadian Hockey Leagues. Oilers’ prospects Sam O’Reilly, Beau Akey, William Nicholl, and Dalyn Wakely are all vying for the top trophy in their respective leagues.

But then, things took a dark turn. In a 4-3 loss, Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard, and Stuart Skinner all left he game at various points. Unfortunately, Hyman and Bouchard were the only two to return to the game.

In response to this, the Oilers recalled goalie protege, Olivier Rodrigue under emergency conditions.

That night, they played against the Seattle Kraken to disastrous results. However, Rodrigue’s play in the third period was one of the few bright spots during an otherwise brutal loss.

Then good news hit over the weekend: Leon Draisaitl was ready to play. He propelled the Oilers to a 3-2 win over the Calgary Flames, notching his 50th and 51st goals of the season.

The Oilers will kick off April with a four-game road trip. That streak begins April 1st, against the Vegas Golden Knights.
