The Edmonton Oilers could solidify their NHL goaltending situation for years to come.
With three more days after today before the Edmonton Oilers play another game, the rumor mill is in full swing. For a third straight game the Oilers had three members of the organization scouting the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Oilers need a dependable goalie to serve in tandem with Stuart Skinner. Skinner has been playing better of late, but cannot be relied on to play every single game for the rest of the regular season.

Elvis Merzlikins had a rough year last year, but looks to be rebounding so far this season. The 29-year old 6-foot-3 goalie has a great .911 save percentage (SV%) to go along with a bit higher than average 3.04 goals against average (GAA).
According to MoneyPuck, Merzlikins is slightly outperforming his medium danger and high danger expected save percentage. In other words - he's meeting expectations.

Bob Stauffer spoke with Frank Seravalli on Oilers Now yesterday. In their conversation, Stauffer mentioned how much the Oilers players respect Merzlikins. Additionally, his agent is based in Edmonton.
All of these factors combined make Merzlikins an appealing option in net for the Oilers to acquire.
