A time to reflect, to relax and enjoy. A time to take stock and plan for the future. It's a perfect time for hockey players to announce engagements and get married.

It's also a great time to stage a comeback.

One former Edmonton Oilers forward is getting ready to lace up his skates again. The 2012 first overall draft pick is returning to the KHL. According to a couple of reports, Nail Yakupov will be coming back to the KHL for a seventh straight season.

Two sources are claiming that Yakupov is close to a new deal. Hockey News Hub reported yesterday on Twitter, "Nail Yakupov will sign with a new team tomorrow."

Jesse Courville-Lynch has also reported a new contract for Yakupov. Courville-Lynch goes into a bit more detail, "Kunlun Red Star has confirmed to me they will announce the Nail Yakupov contract at 09:00 Moscow time, a one-year deal for the 2024-25 season."

For the last six years Yakupov has been playing in the KHL. Before that, his last NHL stop was with the Colorado Avalanche in the 2017-18 season. He recorded 16 points in 58 games. Last season Yakupov collected 19 points in 31 games for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL.

Time will tell if this comes to fruition. It will be interesting to see if this is the beginning of a comeback to the NHL for Yakupov.
