It's often a time to relax and enjoy life. This past summer, the Edmonton Oilers management team worked hard while everyone else worked hard to enjoy the summer weather.

One of the Oilers' transactions was trading away Ryan McLeod for prospect Matt Savoie. This move is proving to be a great one for the organization.

While McLeod provided depth scoring, defensive proficiency, and speed to the NHL lineup, Savoie could be something greater.

Savoie is third in AHL rookie scoring for the Bakersfield Condors this season. In 45 games, he has collected 37 points.

The AHL rookie has been consistently producing recently. Over the past 20 games, he has recorded 21 points, which bodes extremely well for the Oilers.

What's even more promising, is that his production is falling more in line with his stylistic comparable -- Brayden Point.

They both had very productive final seasons in the WHL. For Point, he recorded 88 points in 48 games. However, Savoie one-upped him with 71 points in 34 games.

To say it another way: Point produced at a 1.83 point per game pace while Savoie produced at a 2.08 point per game pace.

However, Point then played his next season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. In his rookie year, he recorded 40 points in 68 games. Even though he is not in the NHL, if Savoie finishes the season with around 50 points, he'll be at a similar level of production.

If Savoie achieves even close to what Point has during his career, he'll be a home run for the Oilers.
