Hopefully, the Edmonton Oilers will not have to withstand an absence for long. Luckily, the team only had to play without Connor McDavid for nine days when he was projected to miss at least 14.

The captain returned to the lineup for last night's 4-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. But now, there is concern that they may have to play the next game without another forward.

Mattias Janmark was missing from practice this morning.

Janmark is one of the most versatile forwards Kris Knoblauch has available. He has often been the chosen one, injected into the top six to pump life back into the team's top stars.

He has three points in 12 games this season while averaging 12:37 a night. Despite bumpy play at different stretches this season, he's been a consistent forechecker who always puts in the effort expected of him every shift.

Because of his versatility, the coaching staff would greatly miss him. However, because of his placement in the lineup, the Oilers could recall a recently demoted Drake Caggiula or Noah Philp to fulfill his role.

With the Oilers not playing again until Saturday, there is still time for the team to make a recall or see if he heals in the next 24 hours.
