The Edmonton Oilers did little to help their goaltender in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

EDMONTON -- Two down, 80 more to go.

For the Edmonton Oilers (and their fans), let's hope the next 80 games result in better outcomes.
On a night when another media member said it was a "guaranteed win night," the Oilers proved that success is not linear. Everyone left Calvin Pickard out to dry (including Pickard himself).
Everyone quickly pointed out how last night was not the best night for anyone on the team. The penalty kill continued its incredible run of allowing powerplay goals, and there was a lack of urgency up and down the lineup for 45 of the 60 minutes of game time.
Viktor Arvidsson was the most noticeable of the Oilers players. He played well defensively from the first puck drop.

He was backchecking well, a hound around the Blackhawks net, and scored a goal that was eventually called back for goaltender interference. In 16:25 of ice time, he had one shot on net, five shot attempts, and a blocked shot. His goal didn't count, but he will have one count shortly if he keeps his play at this level.
Leon Draisaitl did his best to get the team back into the game. While on the powerplay he scored from the left circle. It was a quick tap-in for a goal, but the Oilers will need to consistently bury those chances to dig themselves out of their 0-2 hole of a start.
The Oilers are back in the saddle tonight against the Calgary Flames.
