The Edmonton Oilers sent a player down and shuffled their lines at practice today.

Edmonton Oilers will see Mattias Ekholm return to the lineup. Expected to be paired with Evan Bouchard.

The Edmonton Oilers suffered two blows last night. Not only did they lose 4-3 to the Dallas Stars, they also lost one of their newest forwards. Connor Brown was injured in the second period and would not return to play in the third.

Before the game the Oilers had added veteran forward Sam Gagner to the mix. While injecting him into the lineup gave the team a boost, they still needed more from the rest of the team.

In light of Gagner's play, the lines looked different at practice today:

These were the lines that closed out last night's game, primarily featuring Gagner on the second line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane.

With that news comes another move for the Oilers:

Philip Broberg has been sent down to the Bakersfield Condors. He is the only defenseman that does not require waivers to be sent down.

The Oilers need Broberg to play big minutes in addition to needing to call up another forward to replace the injured Brown. This move allows that to happen. It also allows Broberg to play more than the less than 10 minutes he's been averaging for the last four games.

We wait to see who the Oilers call up.
