Fans of Zach Hyman aren't exactly loving a new list the NHL revealed this week, one that leaves him out of the Top 20 among the league's best wingers.
With Nikita Kucherov understandably getting the No. 1 spot and David Pastrnak at No. 2, the top of the list makes perfect sense. But, as the list adds names and Hyman is nowhere to be found on it, some Oilers fans started to wonder... what gives?
To be fair, the list if full of names that deserve to be there. Even at No. 20, Lucas Raymond of the Detroit Red Wings is no joke. However, as one account pointed out, Hyman only has 112 goals in the last three seasons. One would think he earned a spot there.
It feels a lot like the pattern involving Hyman of late. Left off Team Canada's Olympic team and not making 4 Nations Faceoff, he's been arguably getting the shaft on these kinds of things for some time. Why?
Perhaps it's because he plays with Connor McDavid and that could open up the argument to a theory his numbers are inflated. Maybe it's an age thing. At 34 years old, he's not the youngest on this list. In fact, he'd be among the oldest.
Maybe there were some tough decisions and he was almost there. We don't know who No. 21 or 22 were. Hyman might have been in the mix.
So the question becomes, should he be there? And, if he should, who do you remove?
