The Arizona Coyotes forward is being placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout.
Former Edmonton Oilers forward Zack Kassian has been put on unconditional waivers this morning by the Arizona Coyotes. The 6-foot-3 and 211 pound winger played one season for the Coyotes. He recorded two points, both were goals.
Kassian along with Patrik Nemeth are on waivers for the purposes of buying out their contracts as per Kassian was entering the last year of a four-year deal with a $3.2-million cap hit. He signed the contract on the heels of a 34 point campaign with the Oilers, his career best.
Kassian was traded to the Coyotes at the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The Oilers packaged him with the 2022 29th-overall pick, a 2nd-round pick in 2025 and a 3rd-round pick in 2024 for the 32nd-overall pick in the 2022 draft.

The Oilers are looking for inexpensive contracts to add depth to their team for the 2023-24 season. Would Kassian want to join his old teammates for a chance to win the Cup? Would the Oilers be interested in adding a player of Kassian's profile or go another direction? We wait to see if the Oilers act on this news.
