Everyone knows about Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl taking part in the Biosteel NHL Camp this past week, but no one is talking about this other important player who was there.
The Edmonton Oilers are getting primed to start the NHL regular season. This coming week the team will begin having Captain skates. With everyone re-signed and ready to come back - the team will be coming back with everyone they had in the playoffs, in addition to some free agency pickups and professional tryout contracts.
This past week Biosteel held their NHL camp in Halifax, with NHL veterans like Kyle Okoposo, Connor McDavid, John Tavares and Leon Draisaitl taking part. First overall pick from the most recent entry draft - Connor Bedard - was also there. One Oilers player who has flown under the radar this off-season was in attendance as well- Philip Broberg.
Broberg will be looking to build on his understated and quietly impressive 2022-23 campaign. He played 46 games and collected eight points. Averaging only 12:36 of time on ice per game, he wasn't given a large opportunity last season.
Entering the final year of his entry level contract Broberg will look to play a lot more than last year. Broberg needs to prove his worth, but his performance last year suggests he is up to the task.
