With the latest Edmonton Oilers outing resulting in a loss, there are some questions about the quality of goaltenders in Alberta's capital city.
Jack Campbell struggled in the NHL and has struggled in the AHL to this point. Stuart Skinner has been up and down and Calvin Pickard has yet to start for the Oilers - despite a strong start to the AHL season.
To complicate issues, is the lack of cap space to facilitate roster moves and trades. That would make a trade for the Montreal Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault make sense for the Oilers.

However the team is being linked - yet again - to Jake Allen. A source told The Hockey News that Allen is "on the radar, but others are too."
A few other names that the Oilers have been linked to are Juuse Saros, John Gibson and Jordan Binnington.
This is good context to have, as there have been many reports regarding what goaltenders the Oilers have been looking at. If they are truly looking at every viable option out there, then a rumor to most NHL teams makes sense.
Regardless of the chatter around the water cooler about who the Oilers are ultimately going after, almost anyone they acquire should be an upgrade over Campbell.
