Goalies
Jet Greaves, CBJ vs. NYI (7% rostered)
There is zero reason the Jackets shouldn’t go back to Greaves, who’s now 4-0-0 with two shutouts over the past week, even though the Habs clinched the final playoff spot Wednesday. Riding a hot streak is always risky, but in the final day of the regular season, there may not be a better option for fantasy managers looking for a win. The Jackets can provide ample goal support and the Isles offense is very anemic with an awful power play, likely posing very little threat.
Greaves should be Thursday’s best streaming option based on his hot streak. He’s making a strong case to grab a share of the crease for next season, and that can be a big motivator. Greaves has six wins in 10 starts this season with a .934 SP, which means his strong performances has not been limited to just his most recent stretch.
Tristan Jarry, PIT vs. WSH (25% rostered)
This is a good chance for Jarry to finish the season on a really strong note against a rival. The Caps are reeling – they’ve lost seven of their past 11 – and Charlie Lindgren has struggled while Logan Thompson remains injured with an upper-body injury. Jarry, on the other hand, has won four of his past six starts though there’s been some bad performances sprinkled in. He’s been serviceable overall, going 8-4-2 with a .904 SP since March 1.
There should be more confidence in Jarry than the opposition’s goalies – strange to say, I know – but don’t expect this game to be a low-scoring battle. Though neither team has much to play for, past matchups have had some high-scoring games, most recently an 8-3 win for the Caps. I think Jarry will earn the win on home ice while the Caps stumble, but forget about a good save percentage or goals against.
Samuel Ersson, PHI at BUF (16% rostered)
James Reimer, BUF vs. PHI (8% rostered)
Given the Flyers’ current rotation, either they will stick with the hot hand with Ersson or rotate in Aleksei Kolosov. Ersson is the more logical choice; he’s stopped 68 of 74 shots (.919 SP) in his past two starts and he deserves to get the final game as their best goalie for most of the season. He’s 3-1-0 with a .913 SP and 1.83 GAA in his career against the Sabres, including a win earlier this season though he allowed four goals.
Reimer allowed seven goals in his previous start and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen lost 4-0 in their last game; based on their rotation, Reimer should get the season finale. The Sabres are mired in a four-game losing streak and have not provided their usual goal support though they tend to fare a lot better at home. They face a Flyers team that’s turned it around – relatively speaking –under Brad Shaw, who is 5-2-1 behind the bench.
This matchup will surely feature some goals because neither team defends particularly well and there’s some elite scoring talent in both lineups. Since 2020, the two teams have combined to average 6.6 goals per contest, which is slightly higher than the league average. Ersson will likely be the better performer, and though the home team usually has the edge in this matchup, flip a coin for the result between two evenly-matched up teams.
