Casey DeSmith, DAL vs. SEA (2% rostered)
DeSmith signed a three-year, $3 deal this offseason with Dallas to back up Jake Oettinger. The hope is that this will leave Oettinger fresher for the playoffs, enabling a longer run for the Stars. DeSmith is a solid second goalie, as seen by his work in both Pittsburgh and last season in Vancouver.
He posted a 12-9-8 record with a 2.89 GAA and an .895 save percentage over 29 regular-season appearances with the Canucks in 2023-24. DeSmith now gets to play behind another solid defense and forward unit in Big D. On days where he is between the pipes, roll with DeSmith with confidence.
Jesper Wallstedt, MIN @ SEA (8% rostered)
My original version of this column projected Marc-Andre Fleury to be between the pipes. MAF got the nod Saturday, leaving with Wallstedt or Filip Gustavsson to man the nets Sunday. Wallstedt may not start until Tuesday against the Blues as the Wild determine their three-man goalie rotation.
If Wallstedt is the back up Sunday, he is worth a stash bid due to his upside. With a short schedule Sunday, nearly all the better options in net are largely rostered. If looking for a secondary option, give Ilya Samsonov a look, though Adin Hill might be the starting goalie there.
