Rittich more than ably stepped in for the injured Darcy Kuemper (lower body), stoning all but one of 27 shots Thursday against Montreal. Solid performances were the norm for Rittich last season, as he went 16-6-3 in his 24 NHL games played while bouncing back and forth between LA and the AHL. Rittich was stellar between the pipes with a 2.15 goals-against average and .915 save percentage, which included three shutouts, Kuemper landed on injured reserve Saturday and will be out Sunday, but could be available Tuesday, The better Rittich plays, the easier it is to give Kuemper additional time to heal.
