On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. John Carlson, D, WSH at NYR (92% rostered) – FanDuel $9,800
Between the elite defensemen featured for Sunday’s lone game – Adam Fox and Jakob Chychrun being the others – I think Carlson’s the best value play. He’s still averaging the most ice time as the Caps’ top option in all situations; he maintains his PP1 role and plays on the top pair with Martin Fehervary at both even strength and on the PK. I think this is a high-floor, high-ceiling option when the quality of defensemen available drops off a cliff right after Carlson.
Martin Fehervary, D, WSH at NYR (3% rostered) – FanDuel $5,800
If you need peripherals to push your matchup over the edge and win in blocks and hits, Fehervary is your best option. He’s playing with Carlson at even strength and on PK1, which means plenty of opportunities to block shots, and he’s averaged over 200 hits over the past four seasons. Those hit totals have come down recently, but there’s no better option on the Caps defense when it comes to blocks and hits. Fehervary has an assist, four shots, five hits and six blocks for multi-category coverage.
