Philip Broberg's assist streak ignites fantasy value. Carter Yakemchuk's power play role surges. Grab these rising defensemen before others do.
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy hockey managers to stream, roster or utilize in standard leagues and/or DFS games. Players and goalies highlighted for streaming in standard leagues are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues.
Mike Matheson, MTL at NSH (47% rostered) - FanDuel $5,500
The Preds have plenty of shooters, which makes Matheson an ideal streaming target for managers looking for blocked shots. Matheson’s one of the league’s best with 16 blocks in his past six games, and despite ceding offensive duties to Cole Hutson, continues to put shots on goal. He’s up to 104 shots this season and failed to register a shot in just two games this month.
Philip Broberg, STL vs. TOR (8% rostered) - FanDuel $4,400
A three-game assists streak for Broberg puts him back on the fantasy radar. The Blues offense hasn’t done a ton of scoring lately but they’ve been very good at limiting their opponents’ chances with Broberg averaging over 22 minutes per game. The Leafs defense and goaltending has been an issue lately, and they allow the second-highest number of shots per game on the road in the league.
Carter Yakemchuk, OTT at TB (4% rostered) - FanDuel $5,100
Tough assignment for Yakemchuk but it’s worth noting he played 17:42 in his second game, a big jump from 12:46 in his season debut. He’s quickly supplanted Jordan Spence as a power play option, and the increased minutes is a sign Travis Green trusts Yakemchuk a lot. He’s a high-risk, high-upside play for the Sens’ 11th-ranked power play.
