Veteran Jacob Trouba and rising star Lane Hutson are dominating fantasy games. Discover their fantasy hockey impact and more top defensemen picks.

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues and/or for daily fantasy games.

Rasmus Dahlin, D, BUF vs. UTA (99% rostered) – FanDuel $6,500

It’s been quiet season for Dahlin so far but I like the matchup. The Mammoth have cooled considerably after winning seven straight, having lost two straight with 10 goals allowed. Meanwhile, the Sabres look much better than they have in the first week of the season and no longer have much trouble scoring. Though they’re missing a few key players, Dahlin and the Sabres power play should have a clear advantage on special teams with the Mammoth PK ranking 23rd and going 9-for-12 (75%) in their past five games.

Lane Hutson, D, MTL vs. PHI (99% rostered) – FanDuel $5,900

Hutson continues to be a big part of the Habs offense and enters this game on a six-game points streak. The Habs offense isn’t explosive but it has been incredibly consistent, scoring less than three goals just twice this season, and one of them was a 2-1 win. Hutson has three points in three career games against the Flyers, and also presents a strong value play considering the usual top-tier options all have difficult matchups.

Jacob Trouba, ANA vs. FLA (51% rostered) – FanDuel $5,200

Not sure what’s gotten into Trouba lately but he’s scoring like he’s prime Oleg Tverdovsky. Trouba has scored all seven of his points this season in his past six games, and he’s been playing a ton of minutes over the past two weeks, including three games where he played more than 26. Even if Trouba’s hot streak doesn’t continue, he’s bound to get a lot of blocks against the Panthers.

Sean Walker, D, CAR at NYR (2% rostered) – FanDuel $4,600

Walker is a low-ceiling fantasy player but I think he’s worth mentioning because the Canes are stubbornly sticking with him on PP1. There are definitely some empty calories here because Walker gets a lot of minutes without producing much, but he consistently provides shots and blocks for a decent floor. A point or two, which is possible with PP1, could make him a worthwhile value play.
