Target these defensemen for your fantasy hockey roster. Unlock hidden scoring potential and power-play dominance to boost your team's standings.
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues and/or for daily fantasy games.
Josh Morrissey, D, WPG at SJ (99% rostered) – FanDuel $5,800
Only two defensemen – Adam Fox ($6,600) and Matthew Schaefer ($6,500) – will cost more in DFS play and I’d pick Morrissey over both of them. It’s a good matchup against a team that’s still not very good defensively, and Morrissey is the Jets’ No. 1 option in nearly all situations. It won’t be long before Morrissey stops being a value play; he’s now ninth in scoring among defensemen, tied with Fox and Schaefer with 11 points, and has also more blocked shots than both of them.
John Klingberg, D, SJ vs. WPG (7% rostered) – FanDuel $5,000
With Klingberg taking over PP1 from Dmitry Orlov ($5,500), he’s become the far better value play. Almost all of Klingberg’s value will come on the power play because he doesn’t offer much else.
Jared Spurgeon, D, MIN at NYI (4% rostered) – FanDuel $4,400
A little difficult to figure out the Wild PP lately, but note Spurgeon has taken a much bigger role, taking over a little bit from Zeev Buium. Spurgeon doesn’t have the same upside, but that’s a secondary concern when he’s sharing the ice with the Wild’s top players on the man advantage. Spurgeon has two helpers in two games and provides some blocks for added value.
