On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues and/or for daily fantasy games.
Mathew Barzal, C/RW, NYI at WSH (65% rostered) – FanDuel $6,200
If getting benched for missing the team bus when you’re one of the team’s vets and looking to bounce back from an injury-riddled season doesn’t fire you up, I’m not sure what will. Barzal should be fresh after his one-game ban, though admittedly this is a tough matchup for the Isles playing the second game of a back-to-back. He hasn’t been lights out but the production has been consistent, and the Caps are without Dylan Strome, which should give the Isles an advantage at center ice.
Cutter Gauthier, LW, ANA vs. DET (63% rostered) – FanDuel
$6,500
Leo Carlsson, C, ANA vs. DET (43% rostered) – FanDuel $6,600
Gauthier and Carlsson are both on a four-game points streak as they face their former goalie, John Gibson. This isn’t a full stack because Gauthier and Carlsson play on different lines at even strength, but they do play PP1. I think there’s a value play in Carlsson alone as well, having played at least 21 minutes in three of his past five games. It’s worth noting that Carlsson’s shot volume has increased quite significantly this season, and he will kill penalties as well for some blocked shots.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, C/LW, WSH vs. NYI (36% rostered) –
FanDuel $4,600
Connor McMichael, LW, WSH vs. NYI (17% rostered) – FanDuel $4,700
Ryan Leonard, RW, WSH vs. NYI (9% rostered) – FanDuel $4,300
With Dylan Strome out, Dubois is a great streaming option and DFS value play. His line with Aliaksei Protas and Tom Wilson led the team in 5-on-5 TOI by a significant margin, and they were dominant even though they couldn’t score a goal. Dubois has yet to score a point in five games this season but his underlying stats are as good as they’ve ever been.
The Ovechkin-McMichael-Leonard line stack didn’t work at all last time because the Caps were shut out in a 1-0 game, but their underlying metrics were okay, if not slightly improved from previous games. I still think this is a potential value stack in DFS games, facing a team playing the second half of a back-to-back with a starter that’s been struggling. Alex Ovechkin has feasted on the Isles throughout his career with 45 goals in 76 games.
