Igor Shesterkin, NYR vs. PIT (100% rostered) – FanDuel $7,600
Interesting to me that Shesterkin’s DFS salary is so relatively low, considering the opponent. The Rangers were barely above .500 last season mainly because of Shesterkin, and even a revamped roster that’s yet to be test should have no problems against a lottery-bound team. The Pens are missing two of their top-six wingers in Bryan Rust and Rutger McGroarty, and face their former coach in Mike Sullivan.
Darcy Kuemper ($7,400) may be the cheaper option, but he faces an elite offense and certainly has lower odds of winning. Shesterkin was 3-1-0/.933 SP/2.02 GAA against the Pens last season while Kuemper was 1-0-0/.870 SP/3.44 GAA against the Avs last season.
Scott Wedgewood, G, COL at LA (36% rostered) – FanDuel $7,800
Wedgewood’s far better as a streaming option in traditional fantasy leagues as a one-game option rather than as a value play in DFS, especially since Shesterkin is $200 cheaper. This early in the season, one bad start won’t be a death knell in season-long fantasy leagues.
This is not an easy matchup against a really good team, though Wedgewood’s career numbers against the Kings – 5-2-0/.930 SP/2.15 GAA – are really good. moneypuck.com’s model has the Avs’ chances of winning at 55.9 percent as of Monday evening.
