Ville Husso, DET vs. PIT (6% rostered)
Detroit signed Cam Talbot to a two-year, $6 million contract this offseason, but Husso gets the Opening Night nod. Husso struggled during the 2023-24 campaign, posting a 9-5-2 record, 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage over 19 appearances. However, he had a strong preseason this year, prompting the decision to have him between the pipes to start the season..

Detroit started to turn the corner last season and made some targeted additions this offseason. If Husso/Talbot can be an effective duo in net, the Red wings could again contend for a playoff spot. Husso gets the first chance to show last year's struggles were a fluke and he deserves additional playing time

Dennis Hildeby, TOR at NJ (1% owned)
Hildeby was promoted Wednesday because Joseph Woll landed on the injured list with a lower-body ailment, necessitating the need for a backup goalie. Anthony Stolarz got the nod in net Wednesday in place of Woll, stopping 27 of 28 shots in a 1-0 loss to Montreal. Woll still could get the start Thursday but our guess is that he will miss another games.

Hildeby had a 2.41 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage across 41 regular-season games with the AHL's Marlies in 2023-24. Since Stolarz started Wednesday, if Woll is sidelined as expected, Hildeby should be between the pipes. Toronto will be looking to get in the win column against New Jersey, who are 2-0 on the season.
