The Preds made a big splash and signed Ryan O'Reilly to a four-year, $18-million contract this summer to be their No. 1 center. However, late bloomer Tommy Novak is coming off a 43-point season in 51 games and threatens to take the job. The Preds may end up hard matching their centers with O'Reilly in the defensive zone and Novak in the offensive zone.
