Jason Chen and Michael Amato talk about the early-season struggles for the Oilers and Flames, the Ducks' decision to sit Leo Carlsson as they ease him into the NHL, a few defensemen that deserve to be rostered in more leagues and Joey Daccord's ascension as the Kraken's starter.
In case you missed it, Episode 8 of the Sleepers and Keepers podcast opens up with Jason Chen and Michael Amato discussing a topsy-turvy start to the season. The Oilers are scoring, which is more than what can be said about the Flames, but both teams are having tons of trouble winning games.
The Ducks sat out top rookie Leo Carlsson for two straight games, taking a page from the NBA's book on load management. When Carlsson does play, he's a two-way force playing top-line minutes. But the lack of game action means Carlsson will just be a streaming option until he becomes a regular.
Noah Dobson, Travis Sanheim and Filip Hronek are all having outstanding seasons so far. Sanheim and Hronek, in particular, are under-rostered in most leagues despite playing top-pairing minutes on competitive teams and fill multiple categories.
With Philipp Grubauer struggling again, the Kraken now turn to Joey Daccord to turn their season around. An original Kraken acquired through the expansion draft, Daccord came as a highly-touted prospect and backstopped AHL Coachella Valley to the Calder Cup final last season. He's getting his chance now, and fantasy managers should take their chances with him, too.
