Panthers open preseason with doubleheader against Nashville

Florida and the Predators will play two, split squad games on Sunday at Amerant Bank Arena

Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov speaks after training camp practice on Sept. 21.

The Florida Panthers will be playing NHL hockey on Sunday for the first time since winning the Stanley Cup.

Florida will welcome fans to Amerant Bank Arena for their preseason opener, er openers, against the Nashville Predators.

The split squad doubleheader will begin with Game 1 at 2 p.m. and Game 2 at 6 p.m.

Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice has said during the week that he isn’t putting too much stock into the makeup of Florida’s forward lines and defensive pairings just yet.

That’s because there are several players on the Cats’ training camp roster who will soon be heading back to their respective junior teams.

Those youngsters will get a fun taste of the NHL on Sunday first.

Maurice said for some of his combinations, he wanted to place veterans with youngsters, as we’ve seen with the Gus Forsling, Marek Alscher pairing, and in others he simply put countrymen together.

For fans not attending, there will be a livestream of the games offered by the Panthers, with radio voice Doug Plagens on the call. Check for a link to the livestream on the Panthers main website around the time the doubleheader begins.

You can check out the rosters for each individual game, as well as both team’s full training camp rosters, in the Panthers’ Game Notes below:
