Florida was outscored 5-0 in two games at PNC Arena this season
There would be no thrilling comeback for the Florida Panthers on this night.
For the second time in a few weeks, the Panthers traveled to Raleigh and couldn’t come away with two points, losing on Thursday to the Carolina Hurricanes by a final score of 4-0.
Florida actually jumped out to a strong start against the Hurricanes, controlling play during the early stages.
Interestingly, the Panthers held a 10-4 shot advantage with under five minutes to go in the first period.
It was from there that things began to spiral away from the Cats.
Seth Jarvis scored in the final minute of the opening frame to get the Hurricanes going, and the intermission did little to styme the home team’s building momentum.
Carolina scored a pair of goals less than six minutes apart during the first half of the second period while holding the Panthers without a shot on goal for over 13 minutes.
The Panthers certainly got their opportunities, though.
They hit a pair of posts late in the second period, but Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen also came up big when called upon.
Florida had only four third period shots on goal when Andrei Svechnikov scored into an empty net with 4:18 to go.
Here are some thoughts and observations from Thursday’s tilt in Raleigh:
The Panthers finished the season with an 0-2-0 record at PNC Arena, failing to score a goal in either game.
After going 12 consecutive starts allowing two goals or less, Sergei Bobrovsky has allowed three goals in each of his past two games.
Florida went 0-for-3 with the man advantage. Matthew Tkachuk missed the majority of the first two Panthers power plays while serving a pair of penalties.
The Cats’ penalty kill was solid, though, going a perfect 5-for-5.
