Montour had three excellent seasons with the Florida Panthers and earned himself a nice raise
A key member of the Florida Panthers over the past several seasons is moving on to a new club.
Defenseman Brandon Montour entered this offseason facing free agency.
While the veteran blueliner had expressed a desire to remain with the Panthers, Florida has some tough decisions to make while trying to maintain a Stanley Cup caliber team.
Montour had the best seasons of his career with the Panthers and as such, earned himself a nice pay increase.
According to Shane O’Brien of the Missin’ Curfew podcast, Montour is signing with the Seattle Kraken.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the deal is seven years in length and comes with an average annual value (AAV) of $7.14 million.
That’s a nice raise from his previous deal, which came with an AAV of $3.5 million.
Montour, now a 30-year-old Stanley Cup Champion, has a one-year-old son and another child on the way, and he’s now secured his family’s future like never before.
He’ll be missed in Pantherland.
