Report: Panthers sign Sam Reinhart to 8-year extension

Florida and Reinhart came to terms on the max-term deal before the midnight Monday deadline

Sam Reinhart speaks after Florida's 3-0 win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 9 at Amerant Bank Arena.

Sam Reinhart is staying with the Florida Panthers.

Last season’s 57-goal scorer was playing on an expiring contract and would have been an unrestricted free agent at 3 p.m. Monday.

That won’t be the case though.

Reinhart and the Panthers came to terms on a new, eight-year deal, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Florida was able to sign Reinhart to the eighth year because the deal was agreed to before the midnight deadline.

The former 2014 second overall selection has played each of the past three seasons with Florida after being part of a draft day trade with Buffalo during the summer of 2021.

In 242 games with the Cats, Reinhart has logged 121 goals and 223 points. In addition to his high-end offensive skill, the 28-year-old also provides stability in the faceoff circle and excellent two-way play.

Not only was Reinhart's name was included on the majority of ballots for this year's Selke Trophy, he received several first-place votes.

Terms of the extension have yet to be released, but the Panthers are expected to announce the deal on Monday.
