Florida Panthers - Busy week full of injury updates, breakout candidates, preseason positivity and rookie showcase info

It was another relatively busy week of Florida Panthers offseason news as we continue to inch closer to the 2023-24 NHL season.

We continued our list of Panthers 2023-24 Breakout Candidates, highlighting forward Eetu Luostarinen, who has improved seedily year over year since joining Florida, defenseman Gustav Forsling, a guy would be on the cusp of a very big year, and 2021 first-round pick Mackie Samoskevich, who is aiming to break into the NHL this season after signing his ELC earlier this year.

The Panthers announced they would be hosting the annual Southeast Rookie Showcase, where they’ll face the Tampa Bay Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators.

Games will take place at Hertz Arena in Estero, home of the Florida Everblades, the Panthers ECHL affiliate, and admission is free to all games.

Florida also announced the team would be hosting 17 special themed nights at FLA Live Arena next season, as well as three mini-bobblehead giveaways.

We posed a fun hypothetical question, wondering if we could change the outcome of any Panthers game, which would we choose and why.

Panthers GM Bill Zito spoke on Sirius XM NHL Radio last week and provided an update on injured defensemen Aaron Ekblad and Brandon Montour.

During the interview, Zito was asked about several Panthers hot-button topics, including goaltending expectations, free agency, and the Atlantic Division improving, and we posted everything he had to say.

South Florida students are returning to school and the Panthers hosted hundreds of educators at FLA Live Arena for training and curriculums on the team’s floorball and STEM programs.

A very cool think the Panthers are doing is donating all admission proceeds from their first three preseason games to charity.

Last week the full Miami Heat schedule was released and fortunately, there are only a handful of home game conflicts with the Panthers. We also looked at local conflicts with South Florida’s other major sports teams.
