Bill Lindsay's iconic goal was scored 28 years ago today
It’s time to take a moment and pay our respects to a crucial piece of Florida Panthers history.
Exactly 28 years ago, on April 27, 1996, former Panthers forward and current Panthers radio color analyst scored a goal that has remained the highlight for the franchise in the decades since.
Now with the emergence of clutch performers like Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk, Lindsay’s amazing goal finally has some company, but what Billy did in Game 5 of Florida’s first ever playoff series will always have a special place in the hears of Panthers fans.

With the Panthers leading the series 3-1, Boston tied Game 5 at three goals apiece with 7:31 left in the third period.
A couple minutes later, Lindsay sent the packed Miami Arena crowd into a frenzy when he beat Hall of Fame defenseman Ray Bourque and pushed the puck through goaltender Bill Ranford’s legs to put the Panthers ahead for good.
Florida went on to reach the franchise’s first Stanley Cup Final, ultimately losing to the Colorado Avalanche.
Lindsay’s goal has withstood the test of time in the years and decades since, and even with last season’s run back to the Final, it remains at the top of the all-time playoff highlight list.
