Florida has traded for two veteran forwards this week, preparing for a run at the Stanley Cup
Florida acquired veteran Kyle Okposo from the Buffalo Sabres just hours ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline on Friday.
Going to Buffalo in the deal is prospect Calle Sjalin and a conditional seventh-round pick in 2024 that turns into a fifth-round pick if Florida wins the Stanley Cup.
“Kyle is an exceptionally respected veteran who brings leadership and a competitive edge to our team, and we are thrilled to be able to add him to our group,” Panthers GM Bill Zito said in a statement released by the team.
Okposo was reportedly hoping to find a spot with a Stanley Cup contending team, and Buffalo found him a home with the Panthers.
The former seventh overall draft pick has 22 points in 61 games with the Sabres this season.
Over the course of his 17-year career, Okposo has racked up 242 goals and 614 points in 1,045 NHL games.

The move comes just two days after Florida picked up Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators for a pair of draft picks.
Zito and the Panthers are gearing up for another run at the franchise's first Stanley Cup.
Last season, Florida came within three wins of championship glory, losing in the Stanley Cup Final to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games.
Entering play Friday, the Panthers sit atop the NHL standings with a 43-17-4 record. They host the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon at Amerant Bank Arena.
