Former Florida Panthers defenseman Adam Boqvist has signed a one-year, $850,000 contract extension with the New York Islanders.

Boqvist, 24, started the 2024-25 season with the Panthers after signing a one-year deal with them during the off-season. However, after becoming the odd man out on the Panthers' blueline, Boqvist was placed on waivers by them in January and then claimed by the Islanders.

The change of scenery benefited Boqvist, as he has now found a nice fit for himself with the Islanders. In 17 games with the Islanders after being claimed off waivers, the 6-foot defenseman recorded two goals and eight points. He also received reps on the Islanders' second power-play unit.

After landing this new contract with the Islanders, Boqvist will now look to take another step forward in his development next season. The 2018 eighth-overall pick should be a nice part of New York's defensive group next season as they aim to turn things back around after a tough 2024-25 campaign.

In 18 games with the Panthers this campaign, Boqvist had two goals, six points, and a minus-4 rating.
